Community Canopy Project: Free Trees for Bellingham

A woman holds a young tree and prepares to plant it.

This spring, Whatcom Conservation District and Whatcom Million Trees Project are partnering with the City of Bellingham to offer Bellingham residents an opportunity to receive free trees.

Two hands gesture to two potted trees.

Residents of Bellingham's Columbia, Lettered Streets, Roosevelt, Sunnyland, and York neighborhoods will be eligible to receive 1-3 trees per property in support of Bellingham's Urban Forest Plan. Trees planted in these neighborhoods will help increase the city's canopy cover as they grow over the years.

Those interested in the project can learn more at the project website, and fill out a request form by February 28th. There will be two evening information sessions to learn more about planting and care for trees in February: one online and one in-person. Trees will be distributed on three weekend afternoon dates in March. Through this collaboration, we hope to distribute hundreds of trees to Bellingham residents!
